Japan has some of the most acclaimed museums and art galleries in the world and although the main purpose of this tour is for art appreciation it also explores the various cultural elements that create the fabric of Japanese society.
Enjoy galleries located in Harajuku, Ginza and the stunning Roppongi Hills which is also home to some of Tokyo’s most modern architecture.
As the tour travels further a field you will have the opportunity to discover some of the most acclaimed museums located throughout Japan including the famous I.M.Pei designed Miho Museum in Kyoto and the stunning 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art located in Kanazawa.
Yet a true highlight of this tour is the visit to Naoshima Island. A magnificent contemporary art destination located in the Seto Inland Sea. Perched on a ridge high above the sea you will be accommodated at Benesse House which is a boutique hotel designed by Tadao Ando. You will also explore the Benesse Art Site and view artworks by artists such as Hiroshi Sugimoto and James Turrell.
The tour will also journey across the inland sea to the town of Takamatsu located on Shikoku Island where you will enjoy a tour of Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum and Studio.
A tour of Japan would not be complete with out enjoying the refined Japanese cuisine and local seafood or shopping for the celebrated silk, lacquer and gold leaf products.
Day 01 Arrive Tokyo.
Day 02 Tokyo: Full day sightseeing tour including Asakusa Kannon, Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace, Tokyo City View, Ginza District, Sumida River Cruise.
Day 03 Tokyo: Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to visit three of Japan’s most accredited contemporary museums including the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo.
Day 04 Tokyo – Kanazawa: Depart for Kanazawa by train. Afternoon walking tour of Kanazawa including the old Samurai districts.
Day 05 Kanazawa: Morning sightseeing tour of Kenroku-en Garden and also Kanazawa Handicraft Museum. Afternoon entrance to the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art.
Day 06 Kanazawa – Naoshima Island: Travel by ferry to Naoshima Island which is home to Benesse House and Art Site. Afternoon at leisure to explore the local rural villages.
Day 07 Naoshima Island: Morning tour to Takamatsu to visit Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum and Studio. Afternoon tour of Benesse Art Site.
Day 08 Naoshima Island: Enjoy a morning tour of Art House Projects. Afternoon at leisure to explore the island and its coastline.
Day 09 Naoshima Island – Kyoto: Afternoon walking tour of Kyoto including Nishiki Ichiba (Nishiki Food Market) and surround area. Evening tour of Gion Geisha District including Cultural Evening Threatre Show.
Day 10 Kyoto: Full day sightseeing including Arashiyama Sagano Bamboo Forest, Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizudera Temple, Nijo Castle, Fushimi Inari Shrine.
Day 11 Kyoto: Full day sightseeing tour to Nara to view Todai-ji (Great Buddha), Nara Deer Park, Horyuji Temple and Museum.
Day 12 Kyoto: Tour to the famous Miho Museum.
Day 13 Kyoto – Hakone: Travel by shinkansen to Hakone. Afternoon tour of Hakone Open Air Museum and obtain a close up view of Mt. Fuji.
Day 14 Hakone – Tokyo: Arrive at Tokyo JR Station around mid afternoon. Tour will conclude at the Tokyo Station. Depart for Australia.
