Departure Dates: 12 JUNE 2011
8 Days/7 Nights
This region of Japan easily warrants a week to truly discover the ancient cities of Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, not to mention the remoteness of Mt Koya-san.
Kyoto is simply enchanting. Home to numerous temples and shrines, classical gardens, culinary specialties and like few other cities around the world, there is always something to stir the mind and soul as you witness the spirit of old Japan.
There is no better place to contemplate the essence of true Japanese culture: both its spare aspects influenced by Buddhism and the tea ceremony, or its cultural preservation for the next generations.
This tour also explores the religious significance of Mt Koya-san. This monastic complex is the headquarters of the Shingon School of Esoteric Buddhism.
Located in a remote natural setting, visitors have the opportunity to experience an overnight stay in temple lodging accommodation and obtain a glimpse of the long held traditions of Japanese religious life.
The Buddhist monks go about their normal daily duties whilst their presence gives an unmistakable solemnity to the village.
