The Japan Sea Coast is relatively unexplored by the foreign tourist, yet this stunning region of Japan opens the door to an exceptional appreciation and awareness of Japanese life as it was – and is.
As the tour winds its way along the coastal route it also offers the prospect to encounter a very rural side of Japan and a true highlight of this is seen in towns such as Amanoshashidate and Matsue.
You'll soon discover why Amanohashidate is home to one of the official "Top Three Views" within Japan, while Matsue offers an array of museums, sculptured gardens and is home to the exceptional Izumo Grand Shrine. Overnight in the Samurai town of Hagi and discover it’s wealth of history as you pay a visit to some of the oldest pottery kilns in Japan.
A range of opportunities will arise to relish in the time-honoured Japanese 'onsen' bathing encounters in towns such as Kinosaki and Matsuyama.
Whilst still visiting the enticing cities of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, which is a necessity to make this tour an all-embracing experience of Japan’s inherent beauty and historical culture.
Day 01 Arrive Osaka.
Day 02 Osaka: Full day sightseeing including Himeji Castle, Koko-en Garden, Osaka Castle, Dotonbori Street, Kuronom Market.
Day 03 Osaka: Full day sightseeing includingTodai-ji (Great Buddha), Nara Deer Park, Horyuji Temple and Museum.
Day 04 Osaka – Amanohashidate: Spectacular views of Miyazu Bay which is one of the top three scenic views in Japan.
Day 05 Amanohashidate – Kinosaki: Relax in one of the numerous onsen and experience the healing properties of the natural spring water.
Day 06 Kinosaki – Matsue: View the unique sand dunes of Tottori.
Day 07 Matsue: Full day sightseeing tour of Matuse including Adachi Museum of Art which is home to one of Japan’s most beautiful landscaped gardens.
Day 08 Matsue: Morning tour to the small town of Izumo Taisha to visit one of Japan’s oldest and most important Shinto Shrine. Afternoon at leisure to explore Matsue Castle or sample some tea at Meimei-an Teahouse.
Day 09 Matsue - Hagi: Full day sightseeing tour of Hagi including the old Samurai residential quarters. Also a wonderful opportunity to purchase some traditional Hagi-yak pottery.
Day 10 Hagi-Hiroshima: Morning at leisure to explore Hagi. Afternoon train to Hiroshima.
Day 11 Hiroshima: Full day sightseeing tour to Miyajima Island to explore the numerous temples and shrines including Itsukushima Shrine. Visit Hiroshima’s Peace Park and Museum.
Day 12 Hiroshima - Matsuyama: Ferry across the famous Inland Sea of Japan. Visit Matsuyama Castle and tonight enjoy Dogo Springs.
Day 13 Matsuyama – Kyoto: Afternoon walking tour of Kyoto including Nishiki Ichiba (Nishiki Food Market) and surround area. Evening tour of Gion Geisha District.
Day 14 Kyoto: Full day sightseeing tour including Nijo Castle, Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizudera Temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine.
Day 15 Kyoto: Day at leisure to explore Kyoto and it’s numerous temples.
Day 16 Kyoto – Tokyo: Afternoon tour of Tokyo including Tokyo City View – Observation Deck.
Day 17 Tokyo: Full day sightseeing tour including Asakusa Kannon, Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace, Ginza District, Sumida River Cruise.
Day 18 Depart for Australia.
