TOKYO - KYOTO – NARA - TOKYO 

JPN 71.jpgTravel with fellow quilters and experience one of the most famous quilt shows in the world – International Quilt Week Yokohama 2009.

Throughout this tour you will have the opportunity to not only shop for some exquisite Japanese fabrics but also encounter an induction to Japan and its unique blend of history and culture.

During your travel’s you will also witness the changing of the seasons as the leaves turn to vibrant reds and gold’s. This autumn occurrence makes for a beautiful backdrop to the numerous temples, shrines and cities in which the group will visit.

JPN 72.jpgOne of the major highlights of this tour is to attend the Yokohama Quilt Show. This spectacular show is sponsored by the Japanese magazine Patchwork Quilt Tsusin and has become one of the largest patchwork and quilting events on the Japanese calendar. With over 200 vendors and approximately 200 quilts on exhibit there is something for everyone’s taste. Throughout the day the group will also have the opportunity to attend a Quilting Class which is sure to be informative.

Yokohama Quilt Show: Tour Itinerary 

Day 01    Arrive Tokyo

Day 02    Tokyo: Full day sightseeing tour of Tokyo including Asakusa Kannon Temple, Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace Garden, Tokyo Observation Deck.

Day 03    Tokyo: Visit Yuzawaya Kamata Store – fantastic shopping area for Japanese fabrics and Indigo Dyed Japanese panels. Afternoon enjoy a Tokyo river cruise.

Day 04    Tokyo - Kyoto: Afternoon tour to Arashiyama Sagano - Bamboo Forest, Zen temple and garden.

Day 05    Kyoto: Full day sightseeing tour of Kyoto including Nijo Castle, Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizudera Temple. Cultural Evening Theatre Show.

Day 06    Kyoto: Full day sightseeing tour of Nara including Nara Deer Park, Todai-ji Temple (Great Buddha), Kasuga Shrine, Fushimi Inari Shrine.

Day 07    Kyoto: Visit Kodai Yuzen En to observe the process of hand painting silk fabrics used for kimonos. Everyone will have the opportunity to hand dye a scarf. Afternoon walking tour of Kyoto including Nishiki Ichiba Food Market and some fabric shopping.

Day 08    Kyoto - Tokyo: Morning free at leisure until late afternoon bullet train back to Tokyo.

Day 09    Tokyo: Yokohama International Quilt Show

Day 10    Tokyo: Yokohama International Quilt Show

Day 11    Tokyo: Tour concludes
